Magnus Boman is Professor of Intelligent Software Services at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm.
Magnus shares his academic working time between KTH and RISE SICS AB, a research institute, where he builds learning machines, mainly for improving population health, in the Decisions, Networks, and Analytics lab and assists the CEO in strategy matters. At the institute, he led a foresighting unit for the European Commission 2011-15 where he cooperated with innovation managers and strategists at some of the largest European companies involved with IT.
Magnus' recent projects include artificial neural networks for understanding emotion expressions in the human face, and smart flags for patients in psychological treatment.
For most of the 1980s, Magnus worked for Sweden’s largest institute for payment services, including a position in back-office currency exchange where he programmed a prediction system for long-term currency contracts. He co-founded a startup selling decision analysis software and strategic advice in 1991. He later applied his knowledge in these areas to insurance and reinsurance for natural disaster and nuclear waste management, and he is an alumnus of IIASA where some of this work was completed. In the 00s, he led a 3-year academic project on algo trading and autonomous agent trading in cooperation with OMX. Subsequently, he led a 3-year industrial project on future operating systems for mobile phones for TeliaSonera.
Magnus has co-authored several books, including Conceptual Modelling (Prentice-Hall 1997). His Ph.D. thesis was on federated information systems and intelligent databases. He has published 100+ papers on medicine, management, mathematics, physics, and computer science.
Stephanie holds a bachelor's degree in operational economics from the University of Mannheim with a focus on accounting and human resources. She has worked in various positions and departments in multi-national companies, most recently BASF and Alstom Power.
At BASF, Stephanie's responsibilities included operational human resources tasks as well as trainee support, management support and team building. During her studies, she supported Alstom Power's research and development in France.
Tobias is founding and managing partner of Rohrbeck Heger. As industrial engineer he has a background in business and technology and has been working in industry, public-private-partnerships and closely with scientific institutions and startups in the last years.
Before co-founding Rohrbeck Heger Tobias has worked five years as project and innovation manager. During this period he has worked with clients from multiple industries – however, the focus has been digital businesses and the application areas of information technology.
Tobias has been working on large-scale, international innovation and startup contests, the systematic exploration and planning of new business fields, trend analysis methods and tools, and innovation and trend radars. Tobias also conducts scientific research in parallel to day-to-day business. His research has been published in leading international journals and on conferences such as Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Futures, ISPIM, and the R&D Management Conference.
Until recently, he was Innovation Manager at EIT Digital (formerly EIT ICT Labs), a PPP focusing on strengthening European competitiveness in the digital domain. In the 18 months before his departure he has designed, implemented and headed the EIT ICT Labs Idea Challenge – a distributed pan-European startup contest – from its initial idea to the end of a successful first year. As by-product he co-initiated the Smart Energy Community of EIT Digital.
Tobias is also an business angel, runs his own investment company and advises founder teams, with a particular focus on new media, digitalization in general and particularly within logistics.
Sebastian Knab is a Manager at Rohrbeck Heger GmbH. He holds a Diploma (M.Sc.) degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Technische Universität Berlin and a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree from Universität Hamburg.
Before, Sebastian was a project manager for innovation management at the EICT, Berlin, and a research assistant at Technische Universität Berlin, Chair of Sustainable Electric Networks and Sources of Energy (SENSE) and Universität Hamburg, Department of Socioeconomics. At the EICT, he established the energy business group and conducted projects on business modeling, innovation planning and strategic foresight. Furthermore, he established and co-lead the EIT Digital's smart energy systems and business modeling activities.
Sebastian has worked for the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in the department Energy, Transportation and Environment and for Prognos AG in the area of Energy Economics and Policy. He has also gained industry experience at Total SA, France, Elektral A.Ş, Turkey, Daimler AG and Aurubis AG, both Germany.
Maren is a communicator and connector by heart. She is fascinated by new and innovative startup ideas and happy to support entrepreneurs growing their business. She is a moderator, speaker, mentor and match-maker.
Maren ist founder of Startup Colors, which is a young company powered by a small group of startup experts offering Innovation Tours, Startup Consulting, Event Management & Matchmaking as well as PR-services.
Kent has been working with strategy, innovation and business development in fast changing technology-based industries for about 10 years. All this work has concerned the handling of business implications of emerging trends and technologies. He holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering and management, a licentiate in industrial management and a PhD in business strategy.
Before joining Rohrbeck Heger Kent has worked as a strategy consultant at BearingPoint and as head of business development at eBay Scandinavia. He has also worked with strategy and innovation training at KTH – the Royal Institute of Technology, both for students and professionals. In addition Kent has done consulting, lecturing, workshops, and coaching for firms like Volvo Cars, KTH Executive School, SJ, ABB, Nettbuss, and coaching of start-up teams.
Kent’s research has been published in academic journals and conference proceedings such as the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and ZfKE. He is also conducting a research project on the video game industry, which among other things identifies the key success factors and links them to strategic options for game development studios.
Sang G. (“Phil”) Yim is a senior consultant at Rohrbeck Heger. He has worked in several different industries and held diverse positions throughout his professional career which spans over 20 years. His past experiences include, the stock market (institutional stockbroker), technology management (consultant), business owner (entrepreneur), innovation management (consultant), and strategy management (foresight manager).
Just prior to Rohrbeck Heger, Phil was with BBVA, a leading global retail bank. At BBVA, he managed the Global Observatory (Environmental Scanning and Trend Management); was part of the Digital Banking Strategy team (Trend Management and Scenarios); and was part of BBVA Research (Digital Regulation). Phil has spent the last 8 years providing strategic inputs for senior-level decision-makers in large organizations, including BBVA, Telefónica, Mapfre, Ericsson, Natura Cosmetics, Santander Bank, Endesa, and Iberdrola.
